We've all been there - locked out of your car. It's a horrible feeling, especially if the temperature is at a freezing point outside. There are several causes for a door not being able to open from the inside, but at least here are six fixes to try that can help you get in. Contact Diego's Locksmith for our auto locksmith service if these fixes do not work.
If you're having trouble with your car door, I'm sure it's not the fun kind of trouble. You're probably trying to get into the car, but it won't open. Or you're trying to get out of your car, but the door won't open.
Car doors can be tricky because there are so many different things that can go wrong. There are also many different ways to fix a door that won't open.
If you have child locks on your car doors, they can be activated by setting them in the "on" position. This will prevent the doors from being opened from the inside and out. Simply slide the switch on each door to the "off" position to turn off the child locks.
If you need to open a car door that has been frozen shut, try this first:
If you've just driven through a bad storm or left your car in a freezing garage overnight, the door locks may be frozen. The key won't turn, and the lock won't budge. Move to another door and try again. If that works, use a heat gun or hair dryer to warm up the lock cylinder and lubricate it with WD-40. Turn the key back and forth several times to work the lubricant into the tumblers.
Try putting some warm water on the door handle and let it sit for a few minutes to loosen up any ice that may have formed. If this doesn't work, you can try using an ice scraper to break off the ice. You can also try turning on the defrost setting on your car and letting it run for a few minutes to melt away any ice buildup. If none of these methods work, you may need to contact Diego's Locksmith for a resolution.
Sometimes when a vehicle is involved in an accident or gets hit hard enough by another car, it can damage the electrical connections to the door lock assembly. If you have experienced any impact where damage was done to your vehicle, check this area first. If you don't know how to check it, contact Diego's Locksmith for assistance.
Another potential issue could be broken in some internal components of the door lock assembly itself. If you hear strange noises when opening or closing your door, this could be the issue at hand.
Check the deadlock mechanism first. Make sure that it is not stuck and working properly. You can do this by using a screwdriver to try and push the lock down. If it does not move, you need to lubricate the lock by applying some lubrication oil or WD-40 to it before trying again. If this does not work, your next step is to replace the lock completely with a new one.
The most common reason for a car door not opening from the inside is rust. Rust has several serious effects on a car door, including making it harder to open and more challenging to close. It's a good idea to regularly check your door hinges and other parts of your car for signs of rust. You can also use lemon juice or vinegar on the rusted areas to help remove the rust. However, you'll probably need professional help when removing severe rust damage.
You're probably freaked out if you've got a car door that isn't opening from the inside. But the good news is, it's fixable. We've got a few tips for you to try out first, which have helped people fix their car doors before. If these don't work, contact Diego's Locksmith, and we can provide emergency locksmith services.
